Deviser and performer
Laura Monroy-García is a Colombian theatre maker and psychologist currently based in London where she is completing the MFA in Advanced Theatre Practice at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Her multidisciplinary practice draws on movement, metaphor, poetry, and object theatre to explore themes of grief and memory through a semi-autobiographical lens.
She is a member of Diagnostic Trouble Code, Other Box Theatre, and Uncle Barry, and has recently performed at the Side Step Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe.
Laura’s previous work in Colombia spans directing, acting, and research across experimental and socially engaged theatre. Her most representative work includes
"Solo Cuando tengas Frío" (2023) an inclusive production by Siempreviva Teatro incorporating Colombian Sign Language (LSC) and Spanish;
"Humano de Metal" by Joroba de Ballena, winer of the Bogotá City Creation Grant (IDARTES, 2022); and "Develaciones: un canto a los cuatro vientos" (2021–2022), a production developed with Colombia’s Truth Commission and Teatro CENIT.
In addition to her creative work, she has taught theatre in educational contexts and contributed to bilingual and inclusive theatre practices.
